Central Florida Regional Hospital is committed to the care and treatment of patients with diabetes. The hospital offers both inpatient and outpatient diabetes education as well as a diabetes support group.

Our Goals

The Diabetes Program at Central Florida Regional Hospital is designed to help you learn about your diabetes, what you can do to feel better and how you can reduce the chances of complications as a result of your diabetes.

We work with your doctor, giving him/her updates of your progress in our program. Now more than ever, it's very important that you keep your scheduled doctor's appointments so that any changes in your treatment plan can be made in a timely fashion.

What You'll Learn

Our outpatient diabetes education program, Diabetes: Take Control, offers both classes and individual counseling. Available instruction includes:

• Comprehensive diabetes education
• Gestational diabetes education
• Medical nutrition therapy with individual meal plans
• Diabetes nurse educator consultation
• Insulin instruction

Class instruction is done by a certified diabetes nurse educator and a registered dietitian.

The classes cover a wide range of diabetes information and self-management topics:

Class 1:
What is diabetes?
Learning to live with diabetes
Monitoring your diabetes

Class 2:
The basics of eating
Food and blood glucose
Planning meals
Stocking the cupboard

Class 3:
Oral medications
All about insulin
Personal health habits
Exercise

Our program instruction has been developed according to the most recently published standards of the American Diabetes Association. These strict standards ensure that you are receiving high quality instruction in an organized and effective manner.
